Fish for salmon in Seattle/Tacoma waters with the traditional cut-plug herring method — mooching — alongside renowned salmon captains. Pickup at Shilshole Bay Dock V or Point Defiance, depending on season.

Blackmouth season opens March 1The king. Largest of the Pacific salmon — we fish for resident "blackmouth" with the traditional cut-plug herring method called mooching.

Late summer – fallThe acrobat. Silvers hit hard and jump often, moving through Puget Sound on their way to home rivers.
- 3Pink
Odd-numbered years · late summerThe crowd-pleaser. Humpies return in huge numbers — steady action that's perfect for first-timers.
- 4Flounder
Year-roundThe reliable one. Open season all year on the sandy flats — drop, feel the thump, reel.
- 5Dungeness
July – DecemberThe Sound's most famous catch. Regulations vary by year, so check with us on the current season.
- 6Squid
October – DecemberThe night shift. We jig for squid under the lights — a Seattle tradition.
Meet the Captain
Captain Thao Tran
"We pay attention to the details and host you like family and friends."
Born in the fishing village of Quy Nhon, Vietnam, Captain Thao immigrated to Seattle at six years old and has carried on his family's legacy of fishing and foraging in Puget Sound ever since.
After years in charitable nonprofits and community empowerment work, Thao brings that same passion for people to every Seattle Nautic trip. Our staff and partners are knowledgeable, friendly and service-oriented — so everyone onboard leaves with a story worth telling.
